REEFTON “B” 0; SCHOOL “A” 1. REEFTON, August 11. This Hudson Cup fixture was played on the Racecourse oh Wednesday. School played up splendidly against a much more experienced team. They had slightly the better of the first half, and Miss Stallard just missed a great opportunity to score as the bell sounded. Shortly after the interval Miss Jean Bierwirth also missed by shooting wide when well placed, but she made no mistake a little later on receiving a well judged pass from Miss Henry. Mrs Colvin made some great efforts for Reefton but was well marked. On one occasion she shot, but the ball hit the goal-post and was got away in the resultant scramble. Playing for School, Oliver Ferguson and Pearl Kearns look likely to soon be well in the running for representative honours.
N.Z. TEAM AT SYDNEY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, August 12. The New Zealand hockey team has arrived in Sydney. The manager, Mr Williamson says he has every confidence in them. He is surprised at the growth of hockey in this country, but thinks there is a little too much Rugby in Victorian hockey, the players in the southern state being inclined to use their weight. The team has so far played seven games in Australia. Won six and drawn one, and scored 61 goals against 5. The principal scorers are Bell 16, Watts 14, Seccombe 8, Lusty 6. Mahony, Fletcher, Hore, Soper and Lusty are the most outstanding players. The New Zealand team for to-mor-row against New South Wales is: Goal, Fletcher; backs, Mahony and Soper; halves, Cole, Morris, Hore; forwards, Lusty, Seccombe, Bell, Watts, Edson. A civic reception will be tendered to the team to-day.
