DEMPSEY WINS

SHARKEY KNOCKED OUT IN SEVENTH ROUND (Per Pr>’H? Association.) GISBORNE, July 22. A wireless broadcast from New York received direct by Mr. O’Meara states that Dempsey knocked out Sharkey in the seventh round. EARLIER MESSAGES. TICKET SPECULATION. NEW YORK. July 20. A mild sensation was caused by the investigation of a United States’ official of the disposal of tickets for the Dempsey-Sharkey fight. Several speculators were arrested for charging considerably above the booking office pi ice, on the ground that, they were evading the payment of additional amusement tax thereby. Rickard opened his books disclosing that three State Boxing Commissioners, supervising prize-fighting in New York, received 136 free tickets, valued at 3400 dollars, and besides these they purchased fifteen thousand dollars worth of others. The question is being asked for what purpose. The estimated attendance at this fight is 80,000, and the proceeds 1.250.000 dollars, of which Dempsey will receive 27J>- per cent and Sharkey 221 per cent

BOTH MEN FIT. NEW YORK, July 21. Dempsey weighed in 194£ pounds, and Sharkey at 196. The doctor who examined the fighters declared that both were in perfect physical condition. Sharkey is still favourite, with comparatively little Dempsey money available, but public sentiment is with Dempsey.
