DIVORCE CASES

A MAN’S ADMISSION UNUSUAL EVIDENCE t (Special to “Star.") AUCKLAND, June 14. There were unusual features in a case in which Lily May Thomas, yesterday, petitioned for a divorce against Stanley Wren Thomas, on the grounds of adultery. Mrs Thomas said that she was married in April, 1913, in New South Wales. They came to Auckland and lived fairly happily together until she had reason to believe that her husband was misconducting himself with another woman. Respondent, who did not oppose the petition for divorce, gave evidence that a child was born to the woman referred to. He was the father of this child. Judge Reed: This seems a rather unusual proceeding, Mr Dickson. Can a man give evidence proving the illegitimacy of his own child? Dickson: Not if the child is by his wife, your Honour, but in this case it is by another woman. The evidence was ruled permissable and a divorce granted.

HATES ALL MEN. (Special to "Star ”) AUCKLAND, June 14. Frank Biss, labourer, Auckland, was granted a decree of restitution against Jean Biss, to whojn he was married in Glasgow (Scotland) in 1920. Answering Mr J. F. W. Dickson, Biss said that he was formerly in the navy. He and his wife came to New Zealand in 1925, and lived at Epsom. In 1926, she left him and had refused to return. His Honor: What was the trouble? Petitioner: She said she didn’t lik£ me, couldn’t settle down, and hated all men. Mr Dickson: I take it that that includes the petitioner, sir. A decree was ordered to be complied within 14 days.
