Miss Vera Groom, who is an inmate of the Grey Hospital, is making satisfactory progress.
Very Rev. Father T. Gilbert, Rector of St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, arrived in Greymouth on Saturday.
Mr. AV. Anderson, secretary of the Grey Valley Collieries Ltd., arrived from Christchurch on Saturday. He is accompanied by Mrs Anderson.
Mrs. A. Hill, who has been visiting Greymouth, and the guest of Miss Sheedy, Sawyer’s Creek Road, will return to-morrow.
Mr and Mrs. Jas. Murdoch of Hokitika, who have been on a visit to Australia, returned to Hokitika on Saturday.
A cablegram from Rome stated that the Crown Prince of Italy is reported to be affianced to his third cousin, the Princess Maria Adelaide of Savoy, daughter of the Duke of Genoa.
Recent arrivals at the Albion Hotel include: Mrs. A. E. Talbot, Mrs. L. Matson, Messrs R. Talbot, Dr. Telford, Labatt (Christchurch), Brown, P. A. Knox (Dunedin), G. Collins (Nelson).
Mr J. Metson, 8.A.. director of the Westport Technical High School, and Mrs Metson, are visiting Christchurch for the jubilee celebrations of the Christchurch Training College, of which both are ex-students.
A London cablegram stated that Earl Oxford and Asquith suffered a slight stroke. His vigorous constitution enabled him to rally, but he walks only a few paces with the aid of sticks. It is unlikely that he will attend the Lords, this .season.
The funeral of the late Mrs C. Williams took place yesterday afternoon at Karoro, when there was a good attendance of friends of Mr and Mrs F. Wise, as well as a number of other Greymouth residents. The service at the grave was taken by Rev. C. E. Brown, of the Greymouth Methodist Church.
On May 6 in St. John’s Church, Ohakune, the marriage took place of Miss Ivy Standish, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Standish, and Mr. Gordon Newlands, eldest son of Mr and Mrs. G. Newlands, Brunnerton. The Rev. P. A. Stanley officiated. The bride was attired in a gown of white satin, trimmed with silver lace, and wore a veil and wreath of orange blossom. The bouquet was of roses and carnations. Miss Molly Standish, sister of the bride, wore forget-me-not blue crepe de chine and a mdb cap of tulle. Miss Ethel Stgndish was attired in apricot crepe de chine. Both bridesmaids carried bouquets of carnations and maidenhair fern. Miss Betty Jenkens, niece of the bridegroom was flower girl. Mr L. Pech acted as best man, and Mr F. Ranger as groomsman. After the ceremony the bride’s parents entertained the guests in St. John’s Hall.
