NEXT WEEK’S OPENING.

CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 25.

The first of March is the opening of the oysteY season, and one of the great days of the year in Invercargill and Bluff. What is commonly known as “Oyster Derby” occurs then. Two or three firms operate, and many bets are put up on which will land the first load r£ oysters. According to law, they must not fish for oysters until March 1. The companies have their boats out on tfie beds. Immediately 1" o’clock strikes, over go the nets. In the morning, motor lorries are waiting on the wharves for the return of the launches. Provided good weather prevails, the first consignment should arrive at Christchurch next Vv ednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.
