(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, Dec. 5. The funeral of the . late Mrs. Burrowes took place on Sunday afternoon. friends from all parts of the district attending. The funeral rites at All Saints Church and the graveside were conducted by the Rev. J. Perkins. Owing to unforseen circumstances the Municipal Band was unable to play at the Westland Hospital yesterday afternoon. They will, however, give a programme at the Mental Hospital on Sunday next. A strong troop of scouts took train to Kumara Junction on Saturday last for the picnic on the Kumara beach. They were accompanied by mothers, sisters and friends, and a good day’s outing resulted. Mr, and Mrs. R. F. Perham left on Saturday morning for Taumarunui to farewell their son James, who has been selected from the Forestry Department together with another member of that department to study afforestation in Australia. Two men will come to New Zealand to do likewise here. The exchange will last about two years. The death occurred on Saturday morning of the. infant child (three weeks old) of Mr. and Mrs. W. Jones, of Bealey. The child had been attended to early in the morning and nothing unusual was apparent but at 7 o’clock the, little one was found to be dead. The doctor’s examination showed the child had died of bronchitis from which it was suffering since birth.
