The death is announced from London of Mr Felix Morgan, the last associate of Daniel O’Connell. He ■died in County Down, aged 109.
Rev. John Enright, who recently lectured through New Zealand, died at Auckland on Saturday. He was a member of the Presbyterian Ministry.
Miss A. M. Hardcastle, owing to illhealth, has resigned her position on the staff of the Stratford Technical School.
Captain E. B. Harman, of the War Record Training Department, arrived from Wellington on Saturday, and will remain on the Coast till after Christmas.
The engagement is announced of Cora, daughter of Mr and Mrs Preston Upper Riccarton (Christchurch), to Cameron, second son of Mr and Mrs Albert Fairhall, Marsden Road.

After 47 years’ service with the Anchor Company, Captain. Vickerman, welfi known at Greymouth, is retiring from the sea. He is at present in command of the s.s. Titoki, and will be succeeded by Captain Hay, of the s.s. Regulus. ■
. JVhile a party was climbing Mount Rolleston yesterday, Doctor Hilgendorf, of Lincoln College, received injuries. He is now-at Springfield under medical tare. Doctor Hilgendorf was the only one injured and he expects to'be about again in a few days. The fall was caused by loose snow collapsing under his weight, and precipitating him several hundreds of feet. —• Press Assn.
Miss Doreen Beck, who has resign<ed from the staff of Messrs Duncan McLean, Ltd., after several years’ service as typiste, was on Saturday .the recipient of gifts and good wishes. On behalf of the firm, Mr P. J. McLean presented her with a folding and, on behalf of the staff, with a travelling bag. Mr L. McGlashan returned thanks on behalf of Miss Beck. She will in future be on the staff of Messrs’ Beck and Co.
The death took place at his residence, Foxton, last . evening, as the result of a heart seizure, of Mr William Slgnall, aged 66 years. Deceased xyas a marine engineer, and one of the best known men in coastal shipping in the Dominion. For many years he was liart owner of the Queen of South. On behalf of Levin arid Co., he went to Scotland, and supervised the construction of the coastal steamers Himitangi and Awahou. Tie leaves a widow, two sons, and two daughters.—Press Assn.
At a reception at Auckland Government House on Saturday night, the Governor-General presented Sir Henry Brett with the letters of patent of knighthood in connection with the honour of Knight Bachelor conferred ori him by the King on January 1, in recognition of his valuable public services for a period of over 50 years. His Excellency also presented Major Alfred Thomas Dow, Colonial Auxiliary Forces . Officer, with a decoration for meritorious service with the military forces. i —a——mm—i
