AUCKLAND OPERA HOUSE. (Special to “Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 6. . The Midnight Frolics Company, who lost practically all their property ,3n the Opera House fire, reappeared at the Prince Edward .Theatre on Saturday night, the laundry having achieved wonders in the reconditioning of the sodden apparel. The insurance was £3OOO in the Phoenix Coy. The costumes and incidentals cannot be replaced. The' wardrobes of Fuller’s Musical Bon Revue, and of Rockets’ were beneath trie stage and were included in the losses. The contents of the safe were intact. Built over forty years ago, the ■building was originally known as Abbott’s Opera House, and eventually passed into John Fuller’s hands for £24,000. The chief damage by fire ■was caused to the stage and surround* ings, necessitating a lot of renovation before the curtain goes up again. Just over a week ago, inquiries were made regarding a sprinkler for the roof, and arrangements made fox’ completely renovating the seating accomriiodation. A MOTHER’S ORDEAL. (Per Press Association.) PUKEKOHE, December G. .About 10 p.m. on Saturday fire destroyed a six-roomed house at Tuakau occupied by Mrs G. Bakalich and family /of eight young children. The father was absent at the' time. The wife had great difficulty in escaping With her family, in their night attire, The youngest child’s foot was burned. The family was lucky, for a few minutes aftei’ theii' exit, the building collapsed. They are now homeless and without clothes. All theii’ effects were lost. AYRSHIRE’S CARGO. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn.) • < MELBOURNE, December 6. . A cablegram, received by the Underwriters’ Association, states that nothing was saved when the steamer Ayrshire was burnt. She had a full cargo of Australian produce.
