—«s>— A BITTER DEBATE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Annociatiou) SYDNEA', November. 29. In the Assembly, Mr Lang moved for supply for four months, amounting to £i,420,335, in accordance with the promise he had given to the House last week. Mr Bavin objected to the granting of supply, contending that there w.-.s nothing to prevent the Government from coming back to the t-loiise at the end of March and asking for further Supply. LATER. In the Assembly Mr Bavin stated that he intended to divide the House on the motion of . supply, unless it could be shown that the electoral rolls could not be ready within a nioiith.
Chief Secretary Lazzarini intimated that it would be impossible to have the rolls ready before March. If the election were held before then, they would have to be under proportional representation with the 1924 rolls. ’A sensation was caused when Miss Preston Stanley declared that the Minister of Health (Mr Cann) offered to put through legislation in which she w,as interested if she would cross the floor and vote for an additional two months’ supply. .Mr Cann admitted that he would put through two bills if Miss Stahley would support him. The debate is expected to close today, to enable the measure to be sent to the Legislative Council.
