LUCKY U.S.A.
ERA OF PROSPERITY. ('Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). WASHINGTON, November 29. The Secretary for Commerce, Mr. Hoover, in his annual report, pictures the fiscal year just ending as one unsurpassed in the history of the United States in respect of the volume of production and consumption, and of the physical quantity of the exports, imports, and also in respect of the wages rates paid. The report declares that there is practically no unemployment in the country, which has been able to maintain the highest standard of living that, it has known. •American manufacturers showed a gain of 7 per cent, throughout the manufacturing industry last year. There was little change in the shipping conditions, though the idle tonnage in the United States and in the world as a whole fell off by one-tenth.
