Addressing week-end meetings in their respective electorates, Messrs Loughlin, Goodin, and Gillies, reiterated their determination to force an election for New South Wales Assembly, in order to rid the Labour Party of the Communistic domination by Messrs Voight, Willis and Jock Garden. SECRETARY’S APPOINTMENT SYDNEY, November 28. The appointment of Mr Coyle, of Wellington, as Secretary to the Newcastle Hospital Board, is meeting with strong local opposition. At a meeting the Labour Day Committee strongly criticised the Newcastle Board’s appointing a New Zealander to the position. The Committee is calling a conference of the representatives of the District Industrial Unions to consider the withdrawal of their industrial subscriptions to the hospital, totalling no less than £30,000 per year, until the position is adjusted by the Board to their satisfaction.

Some other public bodies have also expressed disapproval with the appointment, and the Mayor of Newcastle declared that he could not understand the action of the President of the Hospital. Board in filling the position without first calling general applications. He stated it was his Intention to call a public meeting to protest against the appointment.
