MAORIS V. CORNWALL

FAST AND OPEN GAME.

(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). LONDON, November 24. The Maori Rugby team played Cornwall at Falmouth in fine, dry weather. Cornwall won by 6t03. A draw would have been a more fitting result. It was a fast, open game, the Maoris giving a magnificent display. Their forwards were excellent in the loose, but the sturdy Cornish pack played havoc with the tourists’ finer work, resulting in very little progress being held up. The Maoris’ passing was too mechanical, and it often let in their opponents. The visitors in the first half fairly had the better of their opponents, and they were frequently applauded. Barclay, Falwasser, and Robinson were all pulled down when within inches of the line. Finally, a try was secured, by Barclay, who, picking up from a melee, dashed over. Potaka failed to convert. Maoris 3, Cornwall 0. • The Jiome team rallied splendidly in the second half, their forwards breaking through several times. From Jago’s cross-kick, Harry evened - the score with a try, which Jago failed-to convert. Five minutes later, Jago broke away. He punted lightly over Phillips’s head, followed up, and scored the try not being converted. Cornwall 6; Maoris 3. . The Maoris then redoubled .their efforts. Barclay, Potaka, Falwasser and Robinson were proininent in ; excellent efforts, all being grassed when on the eve of scoring. Cornwall made desperate efforts to increase their lead, but the Maoris, by superb tackling, prevented them doing so. The Maoris, on leaving the field, received an ovation. There was a record attendance. The Maori team consisted of: Phillips, Barclay, Potaka, • Falwasser, King, Pelham, Shortland, Bell, Olsen, Dennis, Wilson, Rika, Tatana, Manihera, and Robinson.
