AMERICAN BANDITS
• NEW “WAR” DECLARED. (“Sydney Sun” WASHINGTON, October 22. Washington has declared war on train robbers and automobile bandits. General Smedley Butler has taken charge of a special corps of twentyfive hundred marines, who will, in future, guard the mails and money shipments by motor car throughout the country. They have orders to shoot to kill. 1 Fifteen million dollars have .been obtained by bandit robberies in the last five years, though most of this sum was finally recovered. Only one robbery out of twepty proved successful from t)ie thieves’ standpoint.
