In the contest for the heavy-weight boxing championship of Australia, George Thompson knocked out the holder, Em Sheppeard, in the second round. AUCKLAND, October 23. The report of the Civic Centre Commission recommending the development of a civic centre, including the civic square area and comprising a considerable extent of property, was presented last evening to a meeting of the special committee of the City Council, which- decided, to refer it to the Council for consideration. The Commission suggests that the scheme should be undertaken in two programmes. The, first would be a layout of the western side of the centre requiring a loan of £B3O 000; the second might be postponed till the first lean was repaid. It would require a lean of £383,000.
