YARRA BOATSHEDS FIRE MELBOURNE, October 21. The lire at the Yarra boatsheds did damage to the extent ot ten thousand pounds, but sufficient boats can be borrowed to enable the regatta to be held.
SAVING THE BIRDS. SYDNEY, October 22. At the Congress of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists’ Union, unanimous approval was given to a motion urging that the New Zealand Government should establish more island sanctuaries upon which New Zealand species or birds now in danger of extinction, might be preserved. It was resolved that the next Congress be held at Perth.
