SIX MINISTERS REJECTED.

OTTAWA, Sept. 15.

The early returns show Liberal gains in the eastern provinces. Eight out of nine changes were in favour of the Liberals and Progressives. Mr. Donald Sutherland (Minister), and the Solicitor General, Mr. Fateaux, are defeated. The Minister of Customs, who was prominent in connection with the Customs investigation, "which w r as made one of the chief issues in the campaign, was re-elected for the Vancouver constituency which he has represented for many years. His actions in connection with the United States oil companies, in which he was at one time interested, were bitterly attacked by the Liberals throughout the country during the past week. The ex-Minister of Railways, Mr. Dunning was re-elected, and the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Tolmic,. was re-elected for Victoria.

Including Premier Aleighen, six of the Alinisters are defeated, the others being Messrs F. L. Patenaude (Minister for Justice), Eugene Pacquet (Health and Soldiers’ Civil Re-estab-lishment), Dr. Morgan (Minister without portfolio). ,The Liberals are gaining in all the provinces except British Columbia. Sir George Perley, Secretary of State, was the only Alinister who survived in Quebec and the maritime provinces. Air. IV. A. Black (Minister of Railways), Air. George Jones (Alinister of Labour) and .Air. John AlcDonald (Minister without portfolio) were returned by much smaller majorities than last year. The latest from Toronto at 11 p.m. states: “If the Liberals add to the hundred and six seats which they hold at midnight the thirteen seats in the West which they held in the last House, they will have a total of only four short of a majority over all the other parties when Parliament reassembles.”

NEW GOVT.’S MAJORITY

OTTAWA, Sept. 15.

The reduction of Air. Meighen’s hundred and sixteen supporters in the last Parliament to ninety, is the outstanding development of the election which resulted in the return of one hundred and eighteen straight out Liberals, eleven Liberal Progressives, eight Progressives, eleven United Farmers, three Labour, two Independent and two unknown.

Even if Air. King cannot rally the support of the straight out Progressives among whom is Agnes McPhail, the only woman who gave him consistent support last session, he still has a probable voting strength of approximately one hundred and thirty.
