RATANA- CHURCH.
WANGANUI, January 29.
“It is not the first time in the world’s history that new religions have been obliged to seek pastures new,” a reporter was informed to-day, when enquiring into the report that some of the Ratana executive are seriously considering the removal of the headquarters of Ratana Church to Te Kuiti.
'One Maori said that the Natives had been pin-pricked by local bodies and health authorities in regard to sanitation at Ratana, and they resented this interference. Should' the headquarters of the church be removed, doubtless this would meair that a large number of Maoris now living at Ratana would also go to Te Kuiti. This in turn would be a big , loss to the business people of Wanganui. It is also mentioned in connexion with the removal proposal that a big farming scheme is being discussed whereby the young Maoris may be trained in farming pursuits, and the produce of the farm will be used or sold for the benefit of the new Maori community.
