When Thomas Williams, Geoffrey and Charles Arden were charged with conspiracy to defraud Douglas Arden of moneys and securities, the prosecuting counsel told an extraordinary story of how the Ardens , aided by Williams, kidnapped’ their grandfather, aged 81 years, in a London street aond drive him in a taxi-cab to Gloucester Gate, where he put his signature to eleven bills of £5OOO each. Counsel explained that there had been some discussion about an appointment of a receiver unider the Lunacy Act, which was done in November. Knowing this, the grandsons hatched an ingenious plot, whereby they offered -to sell Tiini a- collection of pictures valued at £5OOO. /When out under the charge of an aged coachman, they induced the latter to go to a bogus address. While he was absent they drove off with the grandfather. The hearing was adjourned.
