GREY. BRANCH MEETING The monthly meellhg Of the Grey Branch of the CanterbuVy Automobile • Association wan held last evening, Mr< ‘.G. R. .Harker presiding. Mr. Torrens, one of . the Association’s organisers, who has been on the West Coast for a week, enrolling new .members, was present, and Whs welcomed by the chairman, who said if .motorists realised the advantage of joining up with the Association, few who had cars would hot become members. The C.A.A. was a live organisation which had achieved much for the benefit and assistance of motorists. The following new' members were elected: Miss Kettle, Messrs T. Sweetman, S. Garden, A. Richardson, W. A. Pepperel, J. McLean, W. L. Patterson, J. B. Denne, J. Hart, G. Ashby, G. iR. Heslin, A. Beban, A. G. Williams, O. W. Williams, C, T» Knudsen, H. P. Smith, Herb. Moore, W. J. Inglis, W. Hughes, W. E. Bettel, A. H. Chunn, R. A. Barrowman, L. A. Inkster, A. Orr, T. G. Kitchingham, J. Scott, J. Unwin, J. Greenslade, H. Smith, E, 'J. Turner, E. Mulcare, W. R. D. McGregor, Dr. Ray, J. Nielson, J. Ashurst, R. .Glasson, J. Muir, M. McFadyen, W. Kells, L. B. Quintrell, T. Quinlan, C. Curtis, D. Methven, L. Hallinan, E. H. Hales, J. W. Hannan, P. Coates, F. J. Fauth and S. Oxenham. It was decided to get an estimate -for building an open fire place at Punakaiki for the use of picnickers visiting the locality, also the cost of a rest house for ladies. Satisfactory replies were received ■from the Grey County Council as to 'improvements to the Seven-mile and Kaiata -roads, which the Association expressed willingness to subsidise. i .It was resolved that the County Council be approached regarding the bridging of Kararoa creek at the 14mile, on the Grey-Barrytown road. It was resolved to ask the County Council to have the gorse on the Ahaura plain, near Ward’s property, cut to give better visibility. Dr. McKay spoke strongly regarding the custom of “dimming” observed iby motorists on narrow roads. It would be much safer were approaching motorists to observe the practice of one pulling up in unsuitable place, with lights dimmed, and allowing the other to pass. It was decided to invite the Borough Traffic Inspector to be present at the next meeting. '
