A Reuter’s cablegram from London announced the death of Earl Ypres ‘(Marshal French), C6niniander-in T Chief of the British Expeditionary Force 1914-15. He had been ill for some time. He was born. at Ripple Vale (Kent) in 1852.

The deceased had not been in good health for some time; < and her death occurred at the age bf 56 years. In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters (Mrs R.. Johnstone, of Hokitika, and. Miss Beatrice;.Brown, .of Runanga), and three sons (William, a State Mine employee, arid George, living at Runanga). The youngest son, Joseph, accompanied the deceased On the voyage.
The death has Occur red -at. Blenheim of Mr Henry Sylvester Bush, aged 94. He landed at Nelson in the shin Girina in 1854. In the same year he went to Australia, where life- lived ' for- - four years, and then returned to New Zealand,, ‘settling *at ..Wair.au. He was the proprietor of tile Old Beaver Inn, and later of the .Masonic Hotel. For some time he kept, a store at Whakamarina digging?.* He, was a very old Mason, and one of , the first members of Lodge Wairau.
