COBDEN TOWN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Cobden Town Board was held' last evening. Present: Crs. A. G. Gunn (chairman), J. Walker, 0. H. Brailsford, W. F. G. Pullen, D. T. Cochrahe and H. R. Barrett.
Or Brailsford (Works Committee) reported that a culvert in Sturge Street had collapsed and had been repaired. Gravel had been placed on Bright Street.—The report was adopted. Mrs Fiveash wrote requesting a load of gravel.—Cr Walker moved that the request be granted when thtf dray is out. Seconded by Cr Brailsford and carried.
Mr W. J. Joyce wrote notifying the transfer of property in Fox Street-from Mr J. C. Stubbs to Mr F. L. Turley; also from the Public Trustee notifying transfer in estate of the late Alonzo Wisdom (jun.) to Mrs Ada Wisdom. — The Chairman moved that the transfers be approved.—Seconded by Cr Pullen and carried.
Mr W. J. Joyce wrote submitting a draft of lease of municipal reserve to Mr M. Minehan.—Cr Walker moved that the Chairman and Clerk sign same after perusal by members.—Seconded by Cr Brailsford and carried. The Cobden Volunteer Fire Brigade wrote alleging that suction hose used by Mr Hart’s workemen at the Memorial Bridge had been damaged. After some discussion, Cr Cochrane moved that the matter be referred to the Fire Equipment Committee for enquiry.—Seconded by Cr Brailsford and carried.
The Grey Hospital Board .rote, submitting ahnpal estimates anti stating that the levy on the Town District for the year would be £449 13s lid (an increase of £62 over ’last year). Some discussion took place, the item, outpatients £2500, wag striking, as probably patients from outside the hospital district were being treated. Hokitika, with a population of over 2000, was required to find only £401.. The Memorial Committee requested that approaches to bridge be put in order.—Cr Walker moved that the Board meet the Memorial Committee at the bridge to-day at 5 o’clock — Seconded by Cr Brailsford and carried. The Buller Progress League wrote asking suport for construction of the West Coast road, enlisting the cooperation of the Board in urging the Minister to place sufficient money on the Estimates to complete the work. — The Chairman moved that the Board co-operate. —Seconded by Cr Brailsford and carried. j Thomas Spencer wrote requesting lease of municipal reserves, North Beach, at present occupied by him.— It was resolved that Mr Spencer be granted the lease of two sections at the rate of 10/ per section. Mr D. T. Cochrane was, by resolution, appointed traffic inspector for the Cobden Town District. '
The matter of a .sign board restricting speed of motor vehicles was left to Crs Cochrane, Brailsford and the Clerk to attend to.
Complaint was made of the nuisance of unregistered dogs. —Cr Barrett moved that owners of unregistered dogs be prosecuted forthwith. —Cr Cochrane seconded. —Carried. Cr Barrett referred to the public dump. It was unsightly, and he moved that the. Works Committee be empowered to procure some filling to cover up the refuse.—Cr Cochrane seconded. —Carried.
The Ranger reported impounding five horses and four cows, and that he had secured a conviction against a resident for allowing a horse to wander. The Grey County Council wrote submitting a specimen of identification disc and suggesting a similar design for this district. —After some discussion the matter was finally left to the Clerk and Traffic Inspector to arrange. It was explained that it would bn necessary to raise the rates slightly this year to meet extraordinary charges, £l2O on the foundation of thn Memorial Bridge and a further sum to complete filling, footpath construction, etc.
