«s«> TERM OE IMPRISONMENT. ‘ At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court this morning, William Arnold was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond in that he had no lawful means of support, having been previously convicted of being idle and disorderly. Messrs A. Naylor, J.P., and Shallcrass, J.P., were on the Bench. Arnold elected to be dealt with summarily and pleaded guilty. Sergeant Eryer said the accused had been, released from gaol early in March, and since x then he had done! no work. He had been begging a living and sleeping out. His principal \ source of income seemed to be that obtained for carrying liquor to prohibited persons. He was a menace to the town. t In defence, the accused said he had not been taking liquor to anybody. That was only what the Sergeant thought. He was not a blackguard or thief and had tried to get work. A sentence of four months’, imprisonment was imposed.
