AMERICAN ELECTION
REPUBLICAN REVERSES. ’ ■ (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.:WASHINGTON, November 7. The Republican majority in the Senate was reduced from 22 to six today. The elections are incomplete, but the returns indicate a Republican majority. The House of Representatives is practically? uncharig-; ed. The elections were necessary to fill vacancies caused by death. ,-. The Presidential policy is unaffected by the elections, provincial politics dominating four of the vacant seats. New York returned two Democrats and two Republicans. The Democrats had a lead for Governor and other State officials in six States. The Senate will now have 51 Republicans and 43 Democrats, and two Farmer Labour members. The' House will have 225 Republicans, 205 Democrats” and three Independents. Two vacancies are not filled. KU KLUX KLAN GAINS. (Sun Cable.) NEW YORK, November 7. The feature of the State elections , throughout America was the sweeping-, victory of the Ku Klux Klan candidates at Ohio City. . .-i Taken with other developments, this’ seems to point to the' entrance of the Klan into State and national politics next year to a degree which will embarrass many candidates of the other parties.
