General Derivera replying to a letter from the ex-Premier, the Marquis de Albucemas, permits him to reside where he chooses, and trusts that the legal proceedings to be taken against his Government, which had displayed the worst vices, will show the Marquis Albucemas himself was not responsible, as everybody admits his personal honesty. Another ex-Premier, Senior Guerra,, has issued a statement defending tire Conservative Party, of which he is the leader. He declares that it was the upholder of the constitutional anarchy upholder of the constitutional momarc hy and of parliamentary institutions, which were confronted by rebellion. The country, he disapproves of wild attacks by the new regime against the honour of all the old organised parties. The statement concludes that the Conservative Party will place no obstacle in the path of the new regime, but will withdraw from politics, pending the realisation of the dreams of those responsible for the present adventure or arrival of terrible disasters. It is unofficially reported that the exMinisters have been arrested. A deevree has been issued by the Directory, which prohibits gambling in clubs or military messes. CIVIL SERVICE FARCE. LONDON, September 19. The “Daily Express’s” Madrid correspondent says : The proclamation ordering civil servants to be on duty at 9 o’clock undre penalty of dismissal, caused a spectacular, wild scramble among over 200 civil servants, who had never been seen in the office previously. They had never worked, and paid messengers to collect their salaries. Wher they arrived they found no office accommodation and no work.
