TIMBER INDUSTRY

SAAVAIILLERS EORAI GUILD.

With the object of stabilising the industry and placing trading conditions on a much better basis than formerly, the sawmillers of the West Coast at a meeting held on Monday at Greymouth, decided to form a Guild similar to those established in the North Island and in Southland. The attendance at the meeting was the largest and most representative ever secured on the Coast, and practically 100 per cent, of the sawmillers have already signified their intention of joining the new body, which will supersede the Grey-Hokitika Sawmiliers’ Association, and will be known as the Grey-Hokitika Sawmillers’ Trade Protection Guild. The meeting was addressed by Air. A. Seed, of the Dominion Federated Sav.millers’ Association, who explained the aims and objects of the. Guild. Mr. Seed is to-day visiting the sawmillers on the Otira Line in connection with the formation of the new body. This has not yet been incorporated. Another meeting is to be held later, but meanwhile the pricelist issued by the Grey-Hokitika Sawmillers’ Association, and now in force, has been adopted. The following executive was appointed by the meeting:—Air. E. J. Rundle chairman ; Messrs D Tennent, AV. J. Butler, G. Perry, J. Gilbert. and R. H. Perham. ‘ Air. M. J. Fogarty was appointed secretary.
