[. (Per Press Assn.) DARGAA I LLE, September 20. I hi' lion. J. G. Coates and Mr. R. ■ MeV illy. General Manager of Rail- ’ ways, arrived here last, evening and 1 received representations regarding vari- ■ ous matters. Mr. Coat.es, in one reply, made an important statement in connection with penny postage, which comes into operation on October 1. He said that all countries in the Postal Union with the exception of the Australian Commonwealth had agreed to accept penny postage) Irom New Zealand and he had received a communication to that effect yesterday. He did not. know the reason for the Australian refusal It, was not for us to interfere in Australia’s domestic affairs, and Im supposed that they knew their own business best. I Ims, all letters to Australia, would have to bear three hall-pence postage. He was disappointed, but would try again ami see if Australia would not coime into line.
