PARLIAMENT

MINISTERIAL REPLIES. (Per Press .Assn.) WELLINGTON, July 20. To-day Ministers replied to questions on the Order Paper. Among the replies were the following. That the difficulty about daylight saving, if brought into operation in New Zealand, it that it will affect seriously the primary industries of the country. This was the experience of Australia, where the Act had to be repealed after being in operation only a comparatively short time. The Government, however, would be prepared to consider the proposal to alter our time to exactly twelve hours opposite Greenwich time, and this, while its feasibility would have to be considered, would give an additional half-an-hour of daylight In the evenings. . That there is no authority to distribute the balance of the Kaitangata relief funds to surviving representatives of the victims of the disaster. , That in view’ of the necessity of con- ! lining expenditure at the present time ) to essential services, the Government i regrets that it cannot see its way to 1 provide for subsidies to libraries dur- , ing the current financial year. i That as all previous attempts to c establish reciprocity in respect of ■ pensions have failed, it is hardly i likely that the Australian Govern- - ment will consider favourably any J further representations that may be i made to them. The matter of making > fresh overtures will, however, be giv- ■ en consideration. I That the question of making pro- , vision for appeals against the de- ! cisions of the Pensions Board is re- ■ ceiving the consideration of the Government.
