- Mr. and Mrs. J. Brearley, of Halifax, England, are visiting Qreymoutll. Mr. 11. A; London cablegram announced the death of Lord Kinnard. He was bom in 1847. He was prominent in Y.M.G.A. and Soccer football circles. Mt... Gray, Insurance Adjuster for the British Eagle Star Insurance Company, will arrive from Christchurch to-morrow evening. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister ot Public AVorks, will arrive at Arthur’s Pass to-morrow, according to official advice received by the Department at Greymouth.

Private advice has been received of the death in England of the Dowager .Lady Glasgow, relict of the late Lord Glasgow, a former Governor of New Zealand. Mr; R. Johnston, of High Street, returned from Christchurch last evening, accompanied by Mrs. Johnston. His health has considerably improved. Mr. L. M. Gudsell, of the Public Trust 'Office, Christchurch, has been transferred to Greymouth, in place of Mr. AV. R. Beattie, transferred to Christchurch. Mr.; Hewitt, S.M., takes up temporary magisterial duties in Westport pending the appointment of a permanent successor to Mr. T. E. Maunsell, transferred to Nelson. The marriage of Miss Marguerite, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fairhall, Marsden Road, to Mr. Wm. Fred. Coburn, will take place at Holy Trinity Church on Thursday, February 22, at 2 p.m. Private advice was received last evening by Mr. and Mrs. J. Garvey, of Bunanga, stating that their eldest son, Jack, who has for some time been an inmate of the Christchurch Hospital, was sinking fast. Mr. and Mrs. Garvey and family left for Christchurch last evening by special car. Mr. AV. AVill, who succeeded Mr. J. N. Nalder as Clerk of the Magistrate’s and Warden’s Courts at Hokitika, and who went on holiday leave shortly before Christmas, will not return to Hokitika, having been transferred to Hastings. His successor at Hokitika will be Mr. C. AV. Carver of Paeroa, who is expected to take up his new duties about the end of February. v f. , • . ’ J. . .
