KU KLUX KLAN

OREGON ACTIVITIES.

(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)

NEW YORK, December 12.

'The “World’s” Washington correspondent interviewed Governor Olcott, of the State of Oregon, who is en route to a conference of tho State Governors at White Sulphur Spring, in West Virginia. The Governor of Oregon intends to lay the subject of tne Ku Klux Klan before the conference. He says it hgs gained an amazing grip in Oregon, and expressed the conviction that, if it is not checked, the Klan would inevitably lead to upon religious and civil war throughout tne country. Whole communities in Oregon were now torn with such religious dissension that neighbours who formerly were the best of friends are mutual feudists. Families have lost their repute. The spirit of religious intolerance is seizing on churches, and is spreading to all branches of business. Outrages are being committed *>y masked night raiders and the judiciary, the school system, politics, and the newspapers are now so influenced or controlled by tho Ku Klux Klan that all the former' norma] relationships and processes of law and order are completely undermined.
