During the next three years, the New South "Wales State Government will be obliged to repay, or to renew loans, aggregating £60,000,000, which factor will therefore restrict its loan expenditure. TICK MENACE. SYDNEY, June 17.—At the Conference here re the spread of the tick disease in stock, it was agreed to adopt a set of resolutions providing for better co-opera-tion between the stock owners and the authorities, also for the tightening up of the regulations generally, and for giving the Tick Boards more stringent powers over .the infected areas, and for the application of remedies, particularly in regard to dipping.
DESTROYING CATTLE. ADELAIDE, June 18. At the Federal Fanners’ Conference, Mr Roberts (a member of the Queensland Assembly) said that he knew of one man who had ordered that 2000 of his cows should be shot before June if there was no rain, and 2000 more before August, so as to avoid paying taxation on them. Mr Fleming (a member of the Federal House of Representatives) testified that the same thing was prevalent throughout Australia. He added that Mr Hughes had stumped the Commonwealth urging greater production, and that was the farmers’ reward for it.
