Many old friends will be pleased, to see Mr Mitchinson again ‘on the road. Some years ago he paid regular visits to the Coast for Willis, Wanganui. He s now representing Wimbles, of Sydney. li Mitchinson is a Coaster by birth, having first seen the light in Hokitika. At a meeting of the Westland Acclimatisation Society held in the County Chambers on Monday evening the resignation of Mr S. W. Ridlands as caretaker at Lake Kanieri was accepted with regret. His services were eulogised, and a bonus of seven guineas was voted to him as a mark of appreciation. To fill the vacancy caused by his resignation there were six applications, viz., P- T. limpson, Hau Hau; W. 8. Hill, Kumara; JJ Rooney, Kanieri; G. Harcourt, Woodstock; R. A. Green, Greymouth; E. C. Mackenzie, Greymouth. It was resolved to reduce the names to three, which resulted in Mackenzie, Green and Rooney being left; the second ballot resulted in Mackenzie and Rooney being retained, and in the final Mackenzie received 5 votes and Rooney 2. Mackenzie was therefore appointed, to take up his duties from July 1- H was remarked that Mackenzie was with the Gordon Highlanders at Mons, and that he understood the running of a motor launch. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote stating that Mr W. Carter, custodian at public buildings, Hokitika, had been appointed collector of royalty and stamper of opossum skins for Westland; also stating that the'only way of disposing of them for sale was by public auction. Other means involved heavy penalties. A request from the Grey Society to have 400,000 ova hatched out at Lake Kanieri was agreed to on the same terms as last season.
