HIS FATHER'S DEBTS

MAORI'S STBAKGE POSITION. WANGANUI, August 26 Id the Supreme Court to-day an application for discharge from bankruptcy was made by a Native bankrupt. His liabilities were stated to bs £1350, and his assets nil. The bankruptcy dated from 1913. In answer to his Honour's query, counsel for the bankrupt explained that the debts in the schedule were not contracted by the bankrupt, but by his father, the son, on the former's death, assuming responsibility for the payment of the amount. The assumed responsibility was evidently too much for the son, who was subsequently adjudged bankrupt. He had served throughout the war, and now desired to make a fresh start. His Honour, however, thought it p-lvisable, in view of the bankrupt's circumstances, to suspend discharge for three years.
