VALEDICTORY
MR. & MRS. E. J. SG A XTLEBURY. A Targe gathering of members and friends assembled in the Metnodist Schoolroom. Rec-fion, on Thursday, to bid farewell, to Mr. and Mrs. Scantlebury. The Rev. W. B. Bickering presided, and paid a high tribute to the, work and worth of the guests. He regretted that so popular and energetic friends \sera leaving the district. , Mr. F. Knight (Circuit Steward) speaking on behalf of the Circuit briefly reviewed the work of Mr. and Mrs. Scan tlebury in Hieir Church and public life, enumerating the offices each had occupied. Emphasis was laid upon the determined manner Mrs. Scantlebury had liquidated the Church debt. _ .. Mr. Lawry pftid a tribute to the character of Mr, and Mrs. Scantlebury, their capacity for work and their achievements. Mr. T. Watson (County Chairman) another church official, humorously referred to the days of his boyhood recalling his first impression of Mr. Scantlebury. He a]so spoke feelingly of the kindly disposition of Mrs. Scantlebury. . Mr. Wilson eulogised the guests and demonstrated their good dualities. He too, regretted the departure ot such faithful workers in church and civic life. . , . , The Rev. Pickering, on behalf, oi the congregation, presented Mrs. Ccantlebury with a beautiful silver flower stand, and Mr. Scantlebury with a silver mounted umbrella. “Thev are idly good fellows was sun", then Mr. Scantlebury suitably replied on behalf of Mrs. Scantlebury and himself.
