PRICE OF BLANKETS
BOARD OP TRADE'S DECISION
(Special to the “Star.”)
AUCKLAND, August 14,
The Auckland Prices Investigation Tr.bunal has received compla.nts concerning the retail prices charged for blankets. It has made numerous cn quiries, and finds that the prevailing percentage added to the wholesale cost is 50 per cent., and this is considered too high. The Tribunal referred the matter to the Board of Trade at Wellington for a special report as to whether 50 per cent, on the cost was justified or not. The Board of Trade has given t]ie matter its careful consideration, and has replied in the followering terms : —“ln the Board’s opinion 50 per cent, on cost is unreasonable, 33 l-o per cent, being sufficient particularly in regard to locally-manu-factured blankets. The Board considers that the drapers should be given sufficient notice to reduce the percentage before any action is taken.”
