GREY COUNCIL MEETING. REMITS FOR CONFERENCE. At a meeting of the Gyey Acclimatisation Societies' Council it was resolved to distribute £0!),0e0 brown trout fry in tiio New River, Sawyer's, Coal, Notown, Red Jack's, Nelson, and Orwell creeks. It was also resolved that the secretary bo appointed a delegate to attend the Acclimatisation Societies' Conference to be held in Wellington this month and that the following remits be brought before tin; Conference : 1. Tiio desirability of an amendment to the Animals Protection Act to allow an open season for the taking of opossums and the issue of a Realise to take same.

2. To impress upon the Government from a national standpoint, the necessity for better protection of native game in the backbioeks to prevent the extermination of many native birds now becoming rare.
