BLIND SOLDIERS
PROPOSED FUND. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 12. A proposal that a fund of £20,000 should be established for the future care of New Zealand blinded soldiers was made to the Advisory Board of War Relief Societies by Mr, Cl nth a MacKenzie this morning. So far, he said, blinded soldiers had been looked after very well, but we should look to the future and draw up a definite plan. There were 25 blinded soldiers in New Zealand and their future should be provided for. The best way would be to make him happy, and keep busy by giving him plenty to do. Poultry farming was specially suitable for such a man. Blind men could not make this pay and he suggested, therefore, that a definite fund should be created by which the earnings of these men would be subsidised £1 for £l. Sixteen societies had approved of his scheme. Mr. Witt said that the Commercial Travellers Fund for blinded Soldiers totalled £3365. The discussion is proceeding.
