Mrs. Carrol (nurse) who was recently operated on in the Reefton Hospital, is making a good recovery.
Mrs. R. Russell, of the Park Hotel, was an outward passenger for Christchurch by the Otira express this morning.
Mr. E. Hill, who has been relieving at the Grey Magistrate’s Court for several mouths, returned this morning to* Christchurch.
The appointment has been gazetted of Mr. J. Beaumont as a member of the Cobden Domain Board, in place of Mr. G. Sweetman, resigned.
Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., left this morning for Hokitika where he will preside over a sitting of the Magistrate’s and Warden’s Court. He proceeds to Westport to-morrow.
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Langdon took place yesterday morning at the Old People’s Home, Kumara. The deceased was ‘a native of Dublin, and 85 years of age.
Mr. J. E. Wilson. S.M.. Auckland, has been appointed Chief Justice at Samoa, vice Mr. Watson, who returns to Hew Zealand,to resume the duties of Stipendiary Magistrate.
The friends of Mr. and Mrs. H. Crumpton, of Reefton, will be glad to hear that their eldest daughter is making a good recovery in the Reefton Hospital after her recent serious operation. e
Mr. G. Wilson, assistant Iqco engineer at Petone is at present relieving Mr. W. J. Watson, locomotive engineer for the Westland Section of Railways who is on sick leave in Christchurch.
The members of the English League football team left by the Otira express this morning, cn route to Wellington, where the third test match will be played. They were farewelled at the railway station by a large number of football enthusiasts.
Before proceeding with the business of the Grey County Council yesterday the Chairman (Air. J. Irvine) moved votes of condolence to the Wickes, Mcßrearty and Kilgour families in their recent bereavements. The motion was carried in silence, members standing.
A very pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Matthew s Church, Masterton on Thursday last, when Miss Daphne Kilgour, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Kilgour, of Cole Street, was married to Mr. W. Green, only son of Mr. E. H. Green, Matai, Groymouth. The bridesmaids were Miss Joyce Kilgour and Miss Perry, and Misses Maisie and Lois Kilgour were trainbearers. Mr. Maurice Fly, of Masterton, was best man, and Mr. Claude Kilgour, brother of the bride, groomsman. After the wedding breakfast they left for CaTterton where their honeymoon was spent. They were the recipients of many telegrams and presents from their many friends.
Mr. N. D. Hood has been appointed to the position of Assistant Chief Inspector of Machinery. Surveyor of Ships and Examiner of Engines in Wellington, and will take up his duties immediately. Mr. Hoed is wellknown to the machinery owners on the Coast, having been the Inspector of Machinery for the Coast for about eight years before Mr. MacKenzie took charge in 1910. Mr. Hood served his apprenticeship ia Nelson and went to Glasgow for experience, returning to New Zealand in one of the U.S.S. Coy.’s new vessels. Leaving the U.S.S. Cov. he joined the Blackball Coal Coy. as Chief Engineer and remained with, them until appointed Insnector of Machinery in 1905. Mr. Hood has been Senior Inspector in Christchurch during the last four years. His many friends on the Coast 'will be pleased to hear of his promotion.
