RAILWAY WARRANTS
EXTENSION DESIRED. BY RETURNED SOLDIERS. Strong exception is being taken by the Wellington Retaliated Soldiers' Association to the date fixed by the Defence Department for the expiry of returned men s month’s privilege tickets on the railways. The Government announced some time ago that no tickets would be issued after November 2nd. It was pointed out at last week’s meeting of the executive of 'he association that many men who diligently sought to re-establish themselves in civil life immed.alely alter their return from abroad were unable to obtain leave from llrer office or other duties in order to exercise the privilege until the expiration of a year’s service. The executive considered that in such cases it was unjust that the men should be penalised because of their own industry. It was also pointed out that the Defence Department cannot suffer financially through an otronsion of tire date, as the payment fi.r the soldiers’ ticket is nut made to the department until the warrant is actually received from the Railway Department.
