OBITUARY
JOHN SCOTT STEVENSON.

The death of Mr. J. S. Stevenson which took place at the Reefton Hospital on Monday morning, cast quite a gloom over the com in unity and many were the expressions of sympathy" with the sorrowing relatives. Tne deceased was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Stevenson of Shiel Street, Reefton, and was most highlv esteemed by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance, and his demise at the age of 39 years is much to be deplored. Mr. Stevenson had been absent from Reefton for some years and came on sick leave to visit his parents. As his condition did not' improve, an operation was decided upon which was carried out by Drs. Scott and McKay which was successful, but the patient did not rally and passed away on Monday morning. The deceased was born at Black’s Point and qualified for an engineer at Paisley, Scotland, and was for some time in the Howard Smith Coy., as engineer of the s.s. Cooma, and whilst in this appointment succeeded in gaining a chief engineer’s certificate, making several journeys to bring the Coy.’s new boats to the colonies. Later on Mr. Stevenson was appointed assistant-suporpl- - at both Melbourne and Sydney. During the war period Mr. Stevenson was chief engineer of the transport “Canberra” which transported troops from Alexandria to Marseilles, which ship he lett for a health trip to New Zealand, arriving in Reefton on July 22nd last. Mr. Stevenson will be accorded a Masonic funeral being a member of the Ijocigo Pacific, Re*fton. The funeral takes place to-mor-row afternoon.
