GREY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting- of the above committee was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs J. Tennent (chairman), W. Blair- (secretary), R. J. Williams, P. Mackenzie, D. McGregor and L. Aldridge.

RECTOR'S REPORT. Primary Department—The average roil number was 272 boys and 248 girls, total 520. The average attendance was 242 boys and 213 girls, t0ta1455. The average number of absentees was 65.

SECONDARY DEPARTMENT. The average roll number was 23 boys and 27 girls, total 50. The average attendance was 18 boys and 24 gixla, total .42. The average number oi absentees was 8. Blake town.—The average number on the roll was 50 boys and 51 girls, total 101. The average attendance was 45 boys and 44 girls, total 89. The average uuin ber of absentees was 12. Miscellaneous.—Miss Dunn wa - absent through illness on the lit-;. Miss Williams resumed duty o-i the Bth. Mrs Whitmore was absent through illness on the th and on the afternoon of the lOtl Miss Dwyer on the KHh and lit 1 Miss Murdoch on the 18th and o the forenoon of the 20th. The report was received.

CORRESPONDENCE

Letter from the Canterbury Board requesting the Committee to erect a T)rick chimney at the caretaker's residence. —Received..

From the Canterbury Education Board notifying the Committee of the resignation of Mrs E. F. Whitmore, assistant mistress of the High School, to take effect after the"re-opening of the school after the summer holidays.—Received.

The Board also wrote asking the Committee's permission for Mr J. F. Wilson and Miss Struthers to attend instruction classes for dairy science at Hokitika from the 16th to 21st December and 9th to 14tli December.—Received and referred to,Rector to arrange same. Circulars from the New Zealand Educational Insirlute and the Manawatu School Committees' Association were read and received.

Mr Aldridge moved and Mr Mackenzie seconded, that a letter be sent to the Rector, staff and children, congratulating them on their laudable efforts in connection with the Copper Trail.—Carried.

The Treasurer's report showed that after all accounts were paid, a debit balance of £45 remained.

A debate then ensued, in which all present took part, re providing the school with a swimming bath. It was finally resolved that the Committee go into the matter fully immediately the war was over and have a bath in the school grounds for the convenience of the children and public. Business was thus concluded.
