PRIVATE J. W. RYAN. Private J. W. Ryan, son of Mrs Ryan, Mill Street, Westport, is reported slight- ■ ly wounded, remaining with the unit. MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL. Mr John Muir, of Three Mile, received a telegram from the Minister of Defence stating; “I have much pleasure in informing you that the n.c.o. above mentioned, of whom you are the nominated next-of-kin, has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for valuable services in connection with the war. Accept my hearty congratulations on his having gained such a coveted distinction.
