GREY PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

WEEKLY MEETING. The executive of the Grey Patriotic Association met yesterday afternoon. 'Jlie Mayor (Mr. J*. D. Lynch).occupied the chair, and the Rev. E. D. Patchctt, Messrs D. Carter, E. A. Wickes, W. R. Kettle, Jos. McLean, I). McKay, and P. Mclvenzie were present. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter from the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board intimated that assistance could not be given by the Board to returned soldiers for the purpose of purchasing a farm. The case in question was either one for the Patriotic Society or Government under its land scheme for returned soldiers.—Received. The widow of a soldier, now resident in Christchurch, applied for a supple-

mentary amount to her Government pension.—Received and resolved that a grant uf £2 be made in the meantime. A letter from the Citizens' Band was received in connection Avith the Band's instrument fund. The Band asked for a representative of the Association to attend its meeting.—Received. The Watersiders' Onion applied for permission to hold a concert and bail in ail of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund.—Received, and permit "ranted. REPORTS. The Labour Committee's report, dealirfc with the placing of returned soldiers in suitable employment showed that this department of the Associations work was being carried on

satisfactorily and in the interests oJ the returned men: Particulars were given of the number of men placed, and also in regard to applicants not yet placed. The Finance Committee's report showed that receipts for the week included £4O 'from the Helping Hand Shop Committee toward the Sick and Wounded Fund. The balance at tlw Bank was £l3B 13s "lid, and disbursements for the week £8 ss. Complimentary references were made to the good work done by the. Helping Hand Shop Committee, and it was resolved that they be thanked,for then substantial donation to the fund mentioned. _____
