GREYMOUTH v. HOKITIKA.

SOUTHERNERS- WIN THE BUCKLES,

The, first match for the Ballinger Buckles this season took place on Saturday on the Greymouth. green between five rinks representing the Greymouth and Hokitika cubs. The members of the latter club arrived at Elmer Lane Station at 2,4“, and were met by the President of the 6res Club, Mr J. Mcllroy, and several members ,and escorted to the green. After, a few bowls had been played to get the strength of the green; cheers were given for each club, and the game commenced. The green was found to be very heavy, the sward of clover arid grass militating against good play. The following were the players and the scores of each rink;—

The President of the Grey Club congratulated tjie Hokitika players on their win, the scores being: Greymoulh 91, Hokitika 100. The game had been thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, the afternoon, from a bowler's point of view, being excellent. The friendly games between both clubs were always looked forward to, and it was the intention of the Grey Club to send, next Saturday, four or five rink-? to Hokitika to try and regain the much-coveted buckles. (Cheers). He had great pleasure in handing the buckles to the President of the Hokitika Club, and congratulated Mr Nalder's rink on making the highest score, Mr. W. Wilspn, President, of the Hokitika Club, thanked the Grey players for the splendid 'afternoon's play and the kindly references to his club by Mr Mclhoy. He thanked the ladies for providing such u dainty afternoon tea—(applause)—and then handed the Buckles to Mr Nalder, who stated that he was, very pleased to receive the Buckles and to know that a return match was to be played at Hokitika next Saturday.
