MAWHERAITI SPORTS.
The Mawhera-iti bush and dredgemen's sports meeting (the programme of which appears elsewhere in this issue) scorns to be the centre of attraction for St. •Patrick's Day, March 17th.- The ladies of the district,' at a meeting convened hy Miw Murray and hold on Tuesday last., unanimously* decided to form a coniinitl.ee to assist the Sports Club in the direction of catering for the public, so visitors to Mawhora-iti on St. Patrick's Day wii' I'iive nothing to complain of after a grand dav's outing. s The Sports Committee (an energetic lot von may rest assured) have things well in 'hand. The running track will he in tipLop order, and intending "pods" can fount on having a day of good clean sport. Axemen of the day are far from being forgotten and jedging by the -events on the programme, knights of the blade alone should bring about a good day's sport, Other events, such as catching the greasy pig (well trained, well greased, and in a big field), bicycle rave, throwing at the wicket, etc., are included ii*- the programme, to say nothing of the various side shows, such as dealing out the deathknock to Kaiser Bill and Kissing Aunt Sallv in her Sun Hat. ilntending competitors will note that nomination? close with the Secretary, Post Office, Mawheraiti on Saturday, March 3rd. acceptances March 10th. The proceeds of the meeting are devoted to the Reef ton and Waiuta hospitals. With this end in view •and in the interests of sport in the future, no stone will be left unturned to make v hO meeting a success.
