The death look place at Granify on Monday of Mrs Brown, relict of the late Thomas Brown, the. first mine manager of tho present West-port Coal Company, Limited. The deceased was a native of Northumberland, England, and was 65 years of arjp. Brown being district manager for the company in whose fortunes his worthy father played so important- a part. The many friends will sympathise with the familv in its bereavement.

Mr J. Craigic, M.P., accompanied by Mr.: Craigic. arrived in Reefton yesterday morning, and was met at the railway station by members of the Patriotic Committee, In th ( ? afternoon the visitors were taken to the Keep-It-Dark mine and the Progress mill, being; shown latter by the manager, Mr A.
