STATE TRAWLERS. SYDNEY, June 26.—Mr. David Stead has been appointed a Royal Commissioner to visit England and arrange for the purchase of State trawlers. He sails on Saturday. PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS. SYDNEY, This Day.—ln reference :o the employers'- decision against preference to unionists, it is stated that unionist circles are determined to uphold the principle. If the employers are nut prepared to concede it the unions are in a better uosition than ever ;o fight for it. FEDERAL LAND TAX. MELBOURNE, This Day.—The Federal Land Tax Commissioners' report shows that the tax in 1912-13 realised £1,316,735. The large land sales which took place during the year represented £14,989,627, or an increase of over 31,000,000, The Commission points lit that while persons owning large taxable estates continue to sell, persons in a lower taxable field continue co purchase freely, notwithstanding the tax. INCREASED FARES. (Received this day at 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.—There is an outcry against the ferry companies for again substantially raising the fares, following on the recent advance in railway and tram fares.

S\DNEY, This Day.—An official report shows that at the end of 1913 New South Wales possessed 5343 manufacturing works, or an increase of 181, employing 93,105 males and 27,481 fe.miles, or an increase of 5025. The wages paid totalled £12,676,993, or an increase of £1,084.941. The value oi ;danfand machinery is £14,831,637, being an increase of over £1,000,000. M.P.'s AS AGENTS. SYDNEY, This Day. Recently Mr Osborne, a member of the Assembly, and Mr G. A. Jones, ex-member, sued an agent for the sale of the Boorabil Estate to the Government for closer settlement purposes for £2OO commission. _ The verdict was in plaintiff's favour. Tlie press criticised legislators for acting as agents. The Cabinet, after a protracted gittincr, decided to appoint a Commission of Inquiry. PROFITABLE CONCERN. MELBOURNE, This Day.—Golds-brough-Mort's profits for the past year were £154,153, whereto was added £70,652 brought, forward compared with £140,925 the previous year's profits.
