AN ANCIENT RELIC

DISCOVERED IN HAGLEY PARK

[BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL TO THE STAR.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A large stone <yxe, about ten inches long, lias been found by Mr J. Young, a few feet under the surface in Hagley Park, at the place known as the Pilgrim’s Coiner. It is in the style followed by the ancient Maoris, and is a good sample of workmanship, the edge being very thin. It is stated that the site of the discovery was a favourite meeting-place of Maoris in the days before civilisation. Curiously enough, it was selected as the camping ground of the pilgrims, whose memory is honoured now by a cross erected at the spot.-
