HON. DAVID BUDDO.
VISIT TO THE WEST COAST,
Hon David Buddo, Minister of Internal Affairs and of Public Health, arrived in Greymouth from Christchurch last evening. He is accompanied on his West Coast tour by his wife and daughter and Mr J. W. Black (private secretary). On the arrival of the Otira express at the Greymouth railway station, where several hundred people had assembled the Mayor of Greymouth (A. C. Russell, Esq.), ascended the platform of the carriage and, in a few well-chosen words, welcomed Mr Buddo to Greymouth, trusting that his stay here and on the West Coast would be of a most pleasant nature. Three hearty cheers were then given for tiis Minister at the call of the Mayor, after which Mr Buddo briefly replied, expressing his pleasure at meeting so many people on his arrival. He alluded to the fact that the interests of the West Coast and Canterbury were coming closer together and as a Canterbury man he was pleased to be there that night. He extended every good wish for the prosperity of this district. The Ministerial party then drove to Reviugton’s Hotel, where M r Buddo was met by representatives of the various local bodies.
This morning Mr Buddo and party proceeded to Hokitika where they attended the opening of the Westland A. and P. Show. They will probably return to Greymouth to-morrow, going to Heefton, where Mr Brxdclo opens the Show, on Friday. After that the movements of the Minister are uncertain, but he will endeavour to get back to Christchurch as early as possible.
