ROSS FLAT GOLDFIELDS.
UNWATERING COMPLETED. Mr; Falkenbach finished Ins contract for the overhauling of the Ross Goldfields pumps and the umvs(tering.of the mine yesterday. It took a little over a week to put the pumps in good working order and no pains were spared hy the contractor and staff in doing this work as efficiently as possible, with the result that when the pumps were started, there was not the slightest hitch of any kind, nor any signs of trouble with the hearings. The pumps were run in such a manner that a greatly increased flow was obtained over that formerly given out by them. The result was that although the area of workings now are nearly twice what they were when last pumped out, the time taken by the contractor was the same as last time, about nine days altogether. This spanks volumes for the cap:city of the sinking pumps and the staff handled them. Mr Falkenbacli has to be congratulated on the prompt way that he carried the contract through. At noon-'yesterday he handed over the pumps to the Company's staff. Earlier in the morning Mr'G. Trent and Mr H. M. Smyth, accompanied by Mr Moye, the Mine Manager, went through the pump chamber, at the seventh level. From a superficial inspection it looks as if the plant is not so seriously damaged as was at first supposed, and if promptly attended to should soon be in running' order again. On taking over the work the Mine Manager took immediate steps to secure the pump motor, which was left at the bottom of the shaft, and conveyed it and other eelctrical gear to a place oij the surface. The following telegram was promptly | despatched to the Liquidator in Wellington : i "Personally inspected pump chain-1 bcr at seventh level to-day with Minej Manager. Workings div. It now rests with you to arrange for permanent punming. Strongly advise I you to immediately invite hy public advertisement tributors to work; sixth level for say three months.j See no difficulty in getting party of competent miners to offer terms which would relieve Company of all expense till reconstruction is coin-. pletcd and provide a small profit in I the meantime. Matter requires prompt, action. Glad to assist you! in anv way." i
