Kakama has been scratched for all engagements at Wanganui.
Golden Slipper is a regular attendant on the tracks at Tlandwick, but she will not be raced again until next season.
At Caulfield D. J. Price has fourteen racehorses and two trotters in work, one of the latter being the noted Sal Tasker.
The Soult gelding, Silkweb, seems to be developing into a stayer, as he ran well for a mile in the Christchurch Autumn Handicap.
The three-year-old fillies seen out this season have been a bit above the average, including as they do. Lady Medallist, Milan, Ingoda, Sea Elf and Salute.
Millpond, one of the Porirua contestants for hurdle honours this season, has completely recovered from his recent soreness. This horse has been getting through some solid work lately.
That old stager Grand Slam is reported to be in great form just now, and it may not be long before the brother to Bridge carries off a good stake. The more than useful Maku is to bo given a trial over the cross-country. B. Donald has Aboriginal looking very well, and the black horse might account for a race or two when the tracks are more to his liking. The Daystar gelding, Rawhetu, who has so far failed to cover himself with glory, is again in work at Awapuni pnder the tuition of the astute Wilson. The bay gelding is beginning to shape up, and has already done a couple of good gallops on the plough. The New Zealand jockey, H. Cairns, has arrived in Melbourne under engagement to ride for D. J. Price’s stable. This trainer has a long team in hand just now, and has the jumper Ataahua in forward condition, RACERS STAMPEDE. [PER press association— copyright,] LONDON, May 21. Fifteen racers, steeplechasers, while training at Henley, escaped from the meadow, frightened by a motor car, and the terrified and maddened animals rushed through Purley, Croydon and Streatham and a tramcar killed one of them. The Takapuna Jockey Club’s winter meeting opened this afternoon in fine weather and there was a large attendance.- The remaining results are : Empire Handicap.—Sea Elf 1, Uranium 2, Sir Artegal 3. At the distance Uranium had Sir Artegal settled, but failed to stall off a strong challenge by Sea Elf, who finished strongly and tyon easily by three lengths. Time 2.16. Handicap Maiden Hurdles.—King Hippo 1, Matarere 2, Spectre 3. Arty fell on the flat. Time’ 3.6. Hauraki Hurdles.—Tui C'akabou 1, Armagh 2, Commander 3. Tu Cakabou and Armagh fought out a desperate finish, the former getting the verdict by a head. Time 3.57. Royal Handicap.—Lady Frances 1, Doggerbank 2, Impulsive 3. Won by a length. Time 1.32. Ngatarina Handicap.—Flying Soult 1, Maroon and Black 2, Captain Soult 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.14.
